The Assessment Process
Initial Consultation
Prior to beginning an assessment, an initial consultation is conducted to gather important background information and better understand each individual's unique concerns and history. During this session, Dr. Anton will meet with the patient and/or family to discuss presenting concerns, developmental, medical, psychiatric, academic, and psychosocial history, as well as any prior evaluations or interventions.
This consultation allows Dr. Anton to tailor the assessment process to each individual's specific needs and ensures that the most appropriate evaluation is conducted.
Assessment Session(s)
During the assessment session, Dr. Anton will work directly with the patient through a series of structured activities and valid, standardized tasks. These activities are designed to evaluate a range of cognitive abilities, including attention, memory, language, problem-solving, and academic skills, as well as emotional and behavioral functioning.
Sessions are conducted at a comfortable pace, with regular breaks as needed, to ensure that each individual is able to perform at their best. Depending on the scope of the evaluation, testing may be completed in one session or spread across multiple appointments. Efforts are often made to complete the assessment in one session.
Feedback Conference
Once the evaluation is complete, a collaborative feedback conference is scheduled with the patient/family to share and discuss the results in a collaborative and supportive environment. During this feedback session, Dr. Anton will walk you through the findings in clear, understandable language, explain what the results mean for your child, and provide specific recommendations to support their success at home, school, and beyond.
Dr. Anton believes that families are essential partners in this process, and every family member should complete this process feeling informed, empowered, and confident in the next steps. A detailed written report outlining all findings and recommendations will be provided following this session.
Implement Recommendations
Following the evaluation, families will receive a comprehensive report outlining specific recommendations and evidence-based interventions tailored to their child's unique needs. Implementing these recommendations may involve coordinating with schools to establish academic accommodations, connecting with therapists or specialists, and applying targeted strategies at home. Dr. Anton’s goal is to ensure that every family has the guidance and resources needed to take meaningful next steps in supporting their child's growth and success.
